xmas day in the swak!!!!

Waking up xmas morning on a beach in a place as remote as the skeleton coast with 10 other people you've known only 2 weeks is the only way to see in xmas i've decided! With the fire still going from the night before we cracked open some still cold(ish) beers and started on with cooking the fry up. After a breakfast of kings and a quick skinny dip in the atlantic by a couple of the lads we mounted up into the big green truck, and headed down the coast to Swakopmund. We arrived in our backpackers that would play home for a couple of nights around lunch time, and after a quick clean up we headed back out for a festive group meal. Turkey with all the trimmings and plenty of alcohol to wash it down with. The afternoon was spent checking out the beach and getting smashed by the waves when i went for a quick dip, so i decided to head back to the hostel, where plenty of other travellers were starting to get warmed up for a night of heavy drinking. After warming up in hostel bar/pool a few of us headed into town and the swakop lodge in particular which we were informed was THE place to be, not really sure what happened but managed to crawl back to the hostel at about 6am boxing day. good time had by all i believe

i arrived at dunes around lunch time xmas day, and made full use of the indoor swimming pool and bar area. The staff here were great, and the whole place had a fantastic atmosphere about it. The facilities were pretty good, with the dorms nicely furnished and clean, and all the usual things like internet, kitchen area, laundry service etc. The hostel is a 1 minute walk from the beach and promenade, with the centre of town a couple minutes walk in the opposite direction. The reception had all the information needed to organise any tours required and were very helpful. Overall a great base for staying in Swakopmund, would recommend it to others, great atmosphere, great location :)
