we headed out of our comfy beds and out of swakopmund with the next destination being a campsite somewhere near dune 45. This is probably the most famous and photographed sand dune in the world( i think its the one on windows in the sample pics, big an orange so it is!) This was a full days down across dirt roads, through the Namib-Naukluft national park and fantastic scenery ranging from the dunes up near Swakopmund to beautiful passes through rugged rocky desert, and mountains which all look like they should be called table mountain the tops are so flat! We stopped for ice cream and beer at a little place called solitaire which is possibly the smallest town in the world, 1 house, 1 garage, and 1 hotel/campsite, but very welcoming after seeing no sign of life for several hrs.
Once we'd came hurtling back down the huge dune a lot quicker than we went up, we headed back to the campsite via the canyon at sessrien, which is tiny compared to where we were headed next, Fish River Canyon.
Fish river Canyon is the next largest after the grand canyon in the states, and pretty impressive for a big hole! For me this area was impressive at night but more for it's remoteness, and possibly 1 of the best places on earth for appreciating how big the universe is, u must be able to see nearly every star form here, planets galore the milky way and another solar system, as well as some amazing shooting stars with huge tails, and loads of satellites, all in all its a pretty amazing show :)
