Me and my brother on Charles Bridge all smiles ;)

I came to Prague to because I heard that it was crazy on New Years and I was not disappointed.  We found out that there are numerous places in Prague to ring in the New Year.  There is Charles Bridge, where an amazing fireworks display lights up the sky, popular by tourists and really chearry Czechs.  Then there is Wenceslas Square, where they close down a major boulevard(This Champs Elysees) and thousands of Czechs party and drink all night.  I heard that things get rather crazy in Wenceslas Square, where people bring their own fireworks, so I had to check that out.  There is also Old Town Square, which featured live performances, so we had to decide our New Years Plan.

Happy New Year!!!
If you think one couldn't hit all three you would be wrong haha!

After having dinner at the Hotel U Prince we made our way to Charles Bridge for the fireworks spectacular.  Now a few days ago I might have thought that there was a lot of people filling the narrow medieval streets leading up to the Bridge.  On New Years Eve at 11 pm it was packed to the brim.  So if you didn't know where the bridge was, just follow the mob of people...  We got to the bridge and picked a place.  Even though it was not on the edge of the bridge, it was a good spot to watch the show.  What we didn't know was that before the fireworks flew into the sky, there was awhole lot of craziness and mayhem that filled Charles Bridge.  Walking onto the bridge I noticed that there were police officers stationed at the beginning of the bridge, looking like they are standing and having a good old time.

The bridge got gradually more and more filled with people by the minute.  Instead of picking a spot, people think it is fun to try and see if they can cross the bridge before the fireworks start.  By the time it was 11:40pm, there was only maybe 2m worth of space left in the middle of the bridge, and people stilll thought it was fun to try to cross to the other side of the bridge... idiots.  On top of this, you had this crowds of local czech boys that were obviously intoxicated pushing their way to the other through the bridge.  By 11:45 pm all hell broke loose.  There was officially no space to move and people were being pushed left and right.  You felt like you were in a mosh pit at an Iron Maiden concert or something, but it was more dangerous for those closer to the edge.
Fireworks went everywhere, into buildings, into people... and some of them actually went into the sky ;)
For the next 10 minutes people were being pushed around from side to side, and some tourists were STILL TRYING TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE... now that is just stupid.  People could have easily been trampled because of the momentum of the crowd... However it all ended up ok, the fireworks rocketed into the sky, and suddenly the pushing stopped, the champagne bottles exploded and the lack of space didn't matter and everyone loved one another :)))))

Besides being covered in champagne, and having locals throw fireworks right behind me, I was having a blast and the fireworks display over Charles Bridge was the best I have ever witnessed.  After partying on the bridge with people from all over the world, we started to make our way back to Old Town Square.

This is how the locals celebrate New Year, it was crazy!
Now just off the bridge the situation was still in a state of crisis... Most of the crowd was intoxicated and you give them fireworks and it is bound to get crazy.  I tell you the fireworks went everywhere!!! Into other people, into the buildings, into the statues and some of the them actually went up into the sky :)  After getting something to eat in Old Town Square, and hearing some awful live band that would make rejects from American Idol sound like stars, we made our way to Wenceslas Square to party with the locals...

When we arrived at Wenceslas Square it was about 1am but looking at the boulevard you wouldn't know if a riot or a New Years celebration just occured.  Unlike the states, alcohol is legal in public so everyone had a bottle in one hand and fireworks in the other!!! As you walk on the boulevard, you must always be on the look out for fireworks going off because shards of broken glass flew side to side with each explosion.

The Police didn't really want to work on New Years Eve... would rather just enjoy the party
.. My favorite moment of the night was seeing the Prague police chatting on the side of the street while everyone around them was throwing  fireworks into the middle of the street.  After seeing champagne bottle explode right next to me a few times from the fireworks and seeing a few people getting hit, I knew I have had enough of this.

Because my flight was early next day, I was not going to sleep anyway so the party continued....  I headed to a place called ROXY a kick ass club not too far away.  Here I met people from all over, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, who were partying until the place closes... Now thanks to the exchange rate being sooo generous, I could have many drinks, absynth, vodka shots and screwdrivers, and not burn a hole in my wallet!!!  I knew a little Czech but my new Czech friend Sylvie taught me the words that won't show up in any travel phrase book ;)  The party continued.

Couldn't tell if there was just a celebration or a riot :)
...

A few hours later, I made my way to my hostel, gathered my stuff and made my way to the airport... Now after only having 10 hrs of sleep the entire time in Prague this was no time to test my navigational skills haha... sooo the airport shuttle it was lol :)

Prague was everything I thought and hoped it was, a crazy experience full of amazing sights, incredibly cool people, and one of the best experiences of my life!!!
