New Years in Prague lived up to all the hype and some! Whether you come to Prague for the beauty, the history, the people or the nightlife... You gotta come here and experience it all :) Prague takes it New Years to another level, here is a little bit of my trip...

Beautiful City of Prague

Old Town Square

After a loooong layover in Heathrow, I finally arrived in Prague... Instead of following the directions to the hostel provided to me which was too tired to figure out, I decided to take the taxi to the hostel... It wasn't difficult finding one cause they hound you in the airport like you are zebras and they are the lions in the jungle haha.  My luck being that it was late at night, only the shadiest drivers were on duty.  The drive to the hostel took forever, and half way through I was convinced that he was taking us to a very remote part of czech republic a la "Hostel" movie and torturing us, as the area around us became seedier and seedier and I saw very few people or lights :( .  But, to my amazement the guy was legit and found our hostel like he said he would.

Upon arriving to Old Prague Hostel, quickly settled and went out to explore Prague.  The hostel is very close to Old Town Square so I decided to head there.  Old Town Square is kind of where the Old Town(Stare Mesto) starts and is home to the Astronomical Clock, Kinsky Palace, and is decorated for the holidays...  It is also the meeting point for Prague walking tours, the tour leaders you can easily spot, they are holding a green or yellow umbrella.  Walking through the streets you hear people mumbling, "walk faster I can barely see the lady with the yellow umbrella" :)))    From Old town square, I headed down to the Charles Bridge via "Karlova" street... Charles Bridge is merely a few minutes away, as long as you can get past the 50 or so bohemian crystal shops.

..  Charles Bridge is quite breathtaking, crosses the Vltava River and connects Prague Castle and Old Town.  Walking through the Old Town Tower and onto the bridge you feel like you have time warped into medieval times.  The was built in the 14 and 15th century and is decorated by Saint statues like those of St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Xavier.   The bridge reminds me of Pont Alexandre III in Paris.

Even though there is still a few days until the New Year, you will find plenty of people who are out in Old Town Square enjoying the local food, the sights and the awesome pork kabobs from the many food stands.  For the few hours that I have spent in Prague, I am feeling liking it so far :)

Another thing in Prague, that should not be missed is Petrin Observation Tower, a smaller version of Paris's Eiffel. It is is 60m tall, which doesn't seem to be that high. But adding the Petrin hill, which is 318 m high itself! Imagine overlooking the whole of Prague with panoramic view, which is just magnificent. The only thing that it takes 299 step climb to reach the viewing platform. When the weather is good and air is clear you can see the highest peak in the Czech Republic. It called Snezka and located as far as 150km from the tower!
There is a funicular service, which I really enjoyed too, from Ujezd street in Mala Strana which takes passengers up to the summit of the Petrin hill and the Observation Tower.Prague is good place for tourism actually. I didn't spent that much money and managed to have a really good hotel in the city center booked from www.prague-hotels.org.uk. Prague is the place to be!
