A beach fisherman´s shock after leaving Jericoacoara.
Melissa felt OK when woke up today, but decidely queasy again by the time we left on our 4WD truck over the beach.  Luckily, got better as the morning passed.  Only felt a big dodgy when she had to stand up on the little ferries that took us over the lagoons.  Much better by tonight.  We followed the coast along the beach, then got a mini-bus to our final destination today of Parnaiba, from where we will go out tomorrow for a boat trip on the delta.  The hotel is very nice, no fridge or TV in the room, but a fantastic pool.  Tried to get lunch outside the hotel, but today there is a national holiday so very little open.  While out, saw a poor little donkey walking along the road with a broken leg - his front hoof was all bent under him and he was walking on the shin.

It was so sad.  Went back to the hotel for a swim and snooze, then we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the hotel.  The food was excellent and the prices very reasonable, also drinks a good price.  Another night by the pool with our rum and coke!

8 September:
Went out for our delta boat trip today.  Because of the holiday, the big boats weren´t running.  This was a great advantage, because we had a private little boat which could scoot up and down the little side rivers.  Saw some colourful iguanas, a few birds, and various types of crabs.  Our guide got off the boat to show us how to catch crabs, and we watched a river fisherman hauling in his prawn catch.  Not a very lucrative career, by the sound of it.  Stopped at a beach on a sandy peninsula, over which we walked to the Atlantic Ocean.
Our jeep getting off the lagoon ferry between Jeri and Parnaiba.
The water was lovely, but very windy and rough so not really suitable for swimming.  We amused ourselves drawing pictures in the sand for half an hour!  Had lunch on a fishing island, Melissa tried some crab claws in vinaigrette - very nice, 12 claws for R7 so a good price too!  Got back to the hotel about 2.30pm, had a quick swim and siesta and went out for a quick walk with Jose and Adrian - very little happening because today a holiday here too.  We did get an ice-cream, which was very nice, but then just back to the hotel to sit by the pool again - this time just drinking soft drink!  Had dinner at the hotel again (most restaurants still closed) and tried to watch the US Open mens final, but the hotel didn´t have any channels showing it, so just had to keep trying to get the score updates off the internet.
