Leaving Puerto Montt on the Navimag ferry.
Woke up this morning thinking how incredibly smooth the journey overnight had been, to discover that we hadn´t actually left port yet!  Apparently the cargo elevator broke down and couldn´t get it fixed until this morning.  In the end, we didn´t leave until around 2pm, so running almost a day late.  But considering we were given a bed, plus dinner, breakfast and lunch, we aren´t complaining.  The scenery we passed this afternoon was quite like the sounds in New Zealand, lots of mountains cutting down sharply into the sea.  The waters within the channels are quite smooth, but it is cold and windy outside on deck  We tend to stay indoors most of the time, because there are good windows in the lounge, but pop out every couple of hours to see what´s passing us by.  The tour guide showed a film today (in English) abut the Kaweskar people, a local Patagonian group, and their culture.  We think that this service actually finishes next week, so we came at just the right time.  Once the ferry gets into the winter season, the services fall away a bit, but still think it would be a worthwhile journey.
