Melissa getting her shoes polished in the Plaza de Armas, Santiago

14 April
Left our little flat today, felt quite funny walking out the door for the last time!  After meeting the landlady's rep and the ContactChile person returned our deposit, we got a taxi over to La Casa Roja in Barrio Brasil.  It's a backpackers set in a lovely old colonial building which has been restored quite well.  It  was too early to check in so we left our stuff in the luggage room and took the bus over the the Mall Parque Arauco to see Bodies The Exhibition, one of those plastinated body shows.  We think this was the Chinese version, as there were no people doing strange contortions, just lots of bodies and body parts posed to show how the body works.  It was actually very informative, but quite freaky thinking about how somebody had to actually cut up the bodies and do what had to be done to show the different systems.  Didn't do a lot else today.

VERY lazy day today, just wandered around the neighbourhood, sat in the hostel garden, read our books, watched some cable TV [caught up on quite a bit of CSI!!] and snoozed.  Quite enjoyed it!

Another lazy day before the busy times start again tomorrow.  Walked back to the apartment to check if Melissa's dive log had finally arrived [her mother posted it over a month ago].  It hadn't, so went and got an envelope and stamps to leave with the concierge in case it does actually arrive.  Here's hoping, because it has records of the dives Melissa did in Borneo so would be very disappointing if it's gone forever.  Had our last Bravissimo ice/cream and Melissa got her red shoes shined, felt just like a local sitting in the chair reading the paper!  Back to the hostel to get our things ready for our trip tomorrow and do the final washing, packing etc..
