A tiny monkey in a tree on the walk over to Lopes Mendes, we were told by someone they're called Lion Face Monkeys because their little faces look just like lions!
Had a lovely day today, relaxing on what has been described as one of the world's Top 5 Beaches - Lopes Mendes. We caught a boat from the beachfront around the island to a smaller beach about half an hour away. We then walked over a ridge for about 25 minutes to the main beach. we got there around 11am, so fairly quiet, but it got much busier as the day went on. The sand on the beach squeaks when you walk, and the beach itself bends around in a huge crescent with light surf and warm water. There were lifeguards keeping watch, so generally a pretty safe beach. We left at 2pm (not really sit-on-a-beach-all-day people!) and walked back to the small beach to catch our boat back. By the time we got home at about 4pm it was starting to get quite chilly on the boat, so worth taking a jacket as well. We treated ourselves to dinner at O Pescado on the beach front - one of the best meals we've had in South America. Lovely and fresh, just right seasonings and Noel swears he had the best bruschetta he's ever tasted! The tables are decorated nicely with candles, and the service is excellent, so although a bit pricier than some of the cafes around town, the ambience and food make it worth it for a special night.
