Little monkey in Tim's backyard.
28 July:
Unfortunately, Noel's camera died just as we arrived at Goias Velho last Friday, so we spent this morning looking for a new one.  Brazil is the worst possible place to have to buy a new camera, because it's the most expensive with a fairly limited range, but we found one to do the job until we get home.  Looks like Noel will be getting a new whizz-bang camera for his birthday this year at duty free on the way home!  Spent the rest of the day back at Tim's relaxing by the pool - saw a tiny little monkey playing in the backyard this afternoon, swinging between the trees and running around the lawn.  Tim says he doesn't see them that often, although get a lot of hummingbirds, so we were lucky to spot him.
More monkeys (or are they marmosets?) in Tim's backyard. WE seem to have a family of them now, four at last count.

29 July:
Tim's birthday today, but that didn't stop him getting up at 5.30am and going to the gym as usual - very proud of his will-power!  He came home at lunchtime to take us to a restaurant in a nearby shopping centre for lunch - very nice per kilo place.  These are the way to go here, you basically just pay for what you want, so generally ends up better than having to buy a big meal you leave half of (depending upon how hungry you are, of course).  Noel also got his hair cut at the centre's barber - young apprentice did a great job, and fussed about for ages to get it just right.  Tonight we went out with Tim and some of his embassy friends for a birthday dinner at Porcao, a buffet restaurant of meat, meat and more meat.  The buffet of non-meat items (salads, soups, stews, rice, sushi, fruit etc) was enormous, and then the waiters come around with various cuts of meat on a skewer.  You get to chose the piece you want and they slice it onto your plate there and then.  When you arrive, you get a little sign for your plate saying 'Yes, more please' or 'No thanks, no more' which is supposed to indicate if they serve you or not.  Very well organised!  As it was Tim's birthday, part way through the evening, some of the staff snuck up behind him, slammed a cake on the table and sang happy birthday - quite amusing, as Tim wasn't expecting it and nearly hit the roof.  Really enjoyable evening.
