Sunset from the plane somewhere between Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt.
Left Punta Arenas today.  We didn´t have to be at the airport until 3pm, so went for a wander around town this morning, did some internet updating and had a really nice cafe con leche, more like the cappuccinos we are used to.  We had lunch at a local cafe and when we got back to the guesthouse, the taxi was waiting - a little bit early, but didn{´t matter.  Takes a good 20 minutes to get out to the airport from the city centre, but check-in was very quick and easy.  The airport is quite new, so very nice and modern, and quite comfortable although obviously quite small.  Our Sky Airlines flight took off on time, and ended up getting into Puerto Montt half an hour early!  This flight stops in Balmaceda on the way, which appears to be an airport in the middle of nothing but mountains.  Because of the surrounding mountains the descent into Balmaceda was very rough, and quite a bit of arm-rest gripping was observed!  We even got a tray of snacks and drinks, including beer and wine.  One of the little chocolates was quite delicious - very impressed considering that Sky is the budget airline here.  Got a taxi to our hostel in Puerto Varas, where our old Pachamama by Bus guide (Melissa) was waiting.  She´s got a much smaller group this time, but younger and mostly male, so keeping her on her toes!  Not sure how we´re going to sleep tonight, because hostel is very cold - they do not appear to have turned on any heating and it´s freezing here!
