Left our hotel early at 8am to catch a bus for Santa Fe. The bus was great - very comfortable and modern, and only stopped a couple of times so got in early. Watched a funny Adam Sandler movie on the way (Don't Mess with the Zohan), so in a good mood when we arrived! Caught a mini-van from the main town to Santa Fe, quite an experience. The doors wouldn't stay shut, so each time we went around a corner or a bend, the door would swing open and someone would have to pull it shut again - luckily, no-one fell out! The beach at Santa Fe is lovely, and our hotel is right on the sand with a nice cafe at the entrance - they do lovely merengadas, a fruit drink mixed with milk. Had dinner at a restaurant a bit further along the beach, tried the barracuda which was very nice.
Great day today. We went on a swimming/snorkelling trip with a local fisherman, Simon, who took us to lots of beautify little beaches and coves. The coral was extensive in parts and there were loads of bright fish, beautiful colours and shapes. At one place, the water bubbles because of the volcanic fault line underground. The water is lovely and clear, and also quite warm. Unfortunately it is very salty, too, but not so bad when using the snorkelling mask. Had our last dinner with Terry tonight at a different beachside restaurant, he has to start with another group once we arrive in Caracas tomorrow. Have really enjoyed our time with him so will be sad to lose him.
