This was an 8 month overland extravaganza - from Peru, working around in a loop to Venezuela via Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Some was on GAP Adventures trips, other sections were independent - our biggest trip yet! Highlight was Melissa getting to visit her Uruguayan host family, from her year as an AFS exchange student in 1987 - the first time we'd been together in 21 years! (Also a fabulous 4 days in LA on the way home, shop away!)

A display at the pinga festival in Paraty.
Woke up to a glorious Paraty day today, it´s really warm and the sky is clear blue.  Walked into town this morning and crossed the river to the other side of town, where there´s a lovely little beach we didn´t spot last time.  Had a drink at a little kiosk and watched the kids playing in the sea, then walked slowly back to the hotel for the afternoon.
Went into the pinga festival again tonight, but a bit more controlled on the drinks front!  Did try another cocktail at our favourite stall, then got some food at the food stalls - yummy chicken kebabs, but fried in a sort of batter and then covered with cheese.  Wandered back through the streets, got a sweet from a mobile cake stall man then home to get ready for our tour tomorrow.
