Amazing what a good sleep can do!

This was an 8 month overland extravaganza - from Peru, working around in a loop to Venezuela via Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Some was on GAP Adventures trips, other sections were independent - our biggest trip yet! Highlight was Melissa getting to visit her Uruguayan host family, from her year as an AFS exchange student in 1987 - the first time we'd been together in 21 years! (Also a fabulous 4 days in LA on the way home, shop away!)

Amazing what a good sleep can do!

Woke up this morning feeling SOOOO much better, after a night in a comfy bed in the lovely Hotel Independencia at CAlle Calvo No 31.  Don´t know what the prices are, but our guide says it´s one of the best hotels we stay in, and we´d certainly believe it.  Also a 1 minute walk to the Plaza, so very convenient for everything.  We spoiled ourselves today with a visit to a local beauticians, took us most of the day, but very relaxing.  We had a one hour massage each, and Melissa had a "spa"pedicure (with a little electric foot bath) and some waxing.  The whole lot cost us around A$55, so a little different to getting the pampering back home!  Noel fell asleep after his massage, so had to be woken up an hour later so they could use the room!  It rained all day today, so we just stayed in and snoozed and watched some cable TV.  Collected our laundry late afternoon and while Noel had a night in, Melissa went out with the gang to a Thai restaurant which was really Japanese and then for drinks at Joyride, the local hang-out place.  Has a really nice room upstairs with beautiful wood panelling and comfy lounges.  Ended up at anearby karaoke bar, which would have to be one of the seediest places Melissa has ever been.  After a brief rendition of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, went home to bed in the hope that the clothes would dry out for tomorrow.
