Oldtown Alexandria
Well, I've been to Old Town Alexandria a couple of times now. Usually I bring my visitors here. It's a nice place for just strolling and window shopping. Only one metro stop away from where I live or a short drive. Walking down King street, which is the main street through Oldtown, is always nice. The shops are mostly antiques or boutiques. There's a bunch of restaurants too. I wanted to go to this place that serves German food, called the Cafe "Europe". Well, I guess it's good if you don't know the real thing, but other then that I found the dishes a little odd. Some things just wouldn't be served together back home. Like Spaetzle and Wiener Schnitzel. Basically you don't serve Spaetzle without gravy or cheese, but what do I know, I'm only German. hahaha  However it was eatable.

Next time I just shouldn't be so lazy and hit the kitchen myself. :-) I've also been to a French restaurant called "Le Gaulois". The food was good and you can sit outside.
But back to the beautiful Old Town. The cobblestone sidewalks give it just the right touch. I like the city hall with the clock tower and the big fountain in front of it. There's also a tourist information in one of the oldest buildings on the strip. Once you get all the way to the end you'll see the Potomac in all its glory and smell the sea.  Other then the harbor there's also an old torpedo factory which mainly houses art galeries now. Part of it is a museum.  There's a light house which is also a restaurant. Never been in there though.
From the pier you can take a boat trip to Mount Vernon or to Georgetown, D.C.
It's just a great place to hang out. You can always find something to do here.
Wow, this journal entry sounds more like a review. Sorry about that. I just been here to often to just pick one story.

Vance, I don't know how I missed your message. I do however not remember a place called "Bread and Chocolate" in Oldtown. There are so many eateries. lol

Yes you should!! It's a great way to spend a day and see a lot, well if you include the boat tour. Also there is one of the best seafood restaurants in the D.C. area in Oldtown. It's called "The Wharf".
