Chocolate & waffles... I'm in heaven!
My first thought has to be that I'm happy I don't live in Belgium... I am thoroughly convinced that if this was so I would be the size of a baby mammuth! Yum the chocolate was everywhere! Thank god I didn't have much money with me or I would have bought a store full! And thank you to someone on TB where I read the best waffles in Belgium could be found in a small window right next to Mannequin Pis.... really... I think nothing more than pure taste bud enjoyment went through my mind there... sadly I was so far away that I forgot to take a picture of it.. Good sized thick waffle with fresh banana and strawberry covered in chocolate! Belgium chocolate really does beat anything else.
Well now that I got that out of my system we started our trip by spending Friday in Brussels after a long trip from the airport.
Can I just say that if you choose to fly Ryan Air to Brussels note that they fly to this remote airport 1 hour away from Brussels. Oh and that they are the sole provider of transport and therfore expensive and you may have to stand in line for 45 mins just to get a ticket (oh yeah and that is after standing in line for the bus to have the driver tell you you have to get the ticket inside)... OYYY!!Brussels was nice though, lots of pretty buildings but rainy and windy so we went back to the hotel. Saturday morning we jumped on the train to Bruges which is about an hour (same time as to airport but half the price). And Bruges was absolutely lovely. Saturday was bad weather and determined to see the x-mas markets at night with the light and everything we ran though the rain and wind smelling the food and at lightning speed looked at the goods and even tried on a x-mas hat ;)
