Alright, Coney Island Amusement Park, home of Nathan's Hot dogs and the Hot dogs eating contest. We don't have to take the subway here but if you do get off at "Coney Island" (duh) or "West 8th Street". I only have to take 5 steps from "home" and am right at this station. Sorry, don't mean to rub it in.
Coney Island itself is for kids mainly. Lots of rides, arcades and everything else that you expect from an Amusement park.
In the evening I enjoy a nice walk along the boardwalk towards Brighton Beach and the restaurants that are located there. My favorite is "Gambrinus" (see review below).
The Aquarium is also a nice place to spend some time. It's by no means a Sea World or anything like it, but still. They have a few penguins, sea lions (which you can see at the show, blowing kisses and stuff), a few local species of crabs and fish but also sharks and clown fish (Nemo!).
My hubby and I like to go shopping on Brighton Beach cause we are able to find groceries and delicatessen from the home land (Russia and Germany). Most of the grocery stores sell already prepared food, real Russian dishes to go which is usually cheaper then going to a restaurant, though the prices in Brooklyn are nowhere near as bad as in Manhattan.
Also a nice place to see in Brooklyn are the Verrazano Bridge that leads to Staten Island and Sheepshead Bay.
