Shoot the Freak
When my mum and aunt came to visit from Germany we took the 4 hour trip from Washington, D.C. to Brooklyn so they could meet the other side of the family for the first time. My mum and mum in law got along great even though they didn't speak the same language. :-) Fun for me being the translator and all. *rolls eyes*
Since it was already fall in Germany and cold, my Mum and aunt enjoyed the beautiful weather here. The first thing we did was head over to the beach at Coney Island and faster then you can say "take your shoes off" my mum had taken hers off and was already half way in the water before we realized where she went. There were people in the water which was not warm but still bearable if you wanted to take a dip.
Sunset at Brighton beach with my family
None of us actually had bathing suits with us so we only got in to the knees. After taking a nice long walk we got to see a beautiful sunset.
The next day before heading to Manhattan we went to the Brooklyn Promenade. This was a first time for me too. The view of Lower Manhattan and the Financial district is beautiful from here. There was lots of people out walking. My family was completely blown away. This was the second time my mum had ever been on a plane and I would have never dreamed that she would ever come visit me in the States. I was glad that she seemed to enjoy herself.
We went to Manhattan in our car which was stupid but hubby hates to take the subway. It was a holiday weekends and a Sunday so half the city was blocked for the parade. Hubby double parked the car by Battery Park and me and my family jumped out to snap a few pictures with Statue of Liberty in the back.
Then we drove around lower Manhattan and then made our way up to Central Park along Park Avenue.
We took a stroll in Central Park. I got drawn by one of the Asian artists. He said it would take 10 minutes. 45 minutes later he was almost finished. haha He had "lied" about the price to but we ended up buying it anyways. Yeah, we're suckers.
To top the day off we went to "The View" restaurant (See other Manhattan blog from March 15th.) We were finished with dinner at around 7 pm and since it was already dark out my family got to see Times Square in all its glory.
They were very excited about everything and I had a very good time.
We headed back to Washington the next day. :-)
