Museumsuferfest 29-31. August 2008

Since the agenda is not available yet, here is an overview of the last couple of years.. This year it will be the 10th fest.

but so far it still shows the agenda from last year and ALSO it is only in German - but if you take a look it gives you an idea of how much is really going on.

Anyways, now here from 2007. There were 28 stages with different music, shows, traditional dances and dance possibilities. Throughout both sides of the Main you could find food and fun, lots of entertainment and information and all kinds of projects. Try how to make bread like in the Stone Age, experiment with colors, listen to classical music or salso (brasilian was "IN" last year). You will find food from India, Africa, Thai, you name it, it is there most likely. Except Hamburgers, but there is McDonalds across the street. And for the smokers there is always a typical morrocan tend where you can smoke a nargile (don't know about this year with the new smoking law) and have a fresh peppermint tea.
On the upper level of the shore you will find all the little vendors with handcrafted items, little nicknacks and all those other things, noone really needs, but are always good as a souvenier or typical take home gift. You can try german specialties or foreign foods and of course you can drink lots of beer - yes, right there - on the street.
Now for the people that appreciate a little less action:
During the Fest you can purchase a museums button for €4 (it was in 2007) and it gives you unlimited access to all the museums on the museum shore during the 3 days.
This is especially great for when it is raining.

Also during the Fest they have extra Night busses, so even if you stay a little out of town, you will get home no problem. If you think 1am the night is still too young, right on the corner of the Fest is the old part of town "Sachsenhausen" were you will find one cozy pub next to another most of them open till 4 or 5 during the Fest.  Depending on how many customers they get. I remember during the soccer things, I did no leave till 7 am and the road was still blocked, which of course this will never happen again.

The only thing is - leave your car out of the city, unless you really know your way around. Frankfurt is so full of one-ways, that you can manage to drive around a circle for ten minuted before finding a way back out and figuring out where you started out at.

The highlight of the whole thing is a firework on Sunday, so far every year at 22.30 hrs. Also the dragonboat races are very popular. So far it has always been very, very nice, if you get a chance to see it. last year there were 3 million people at the Fest, which is one of the biggest ones in Europe.

Of course we will plan in a sight seeing tour for the interested ones as well as a typical Frankfurt dinner at a "Applewine Stubb"
If we find enough people interested we can also take the Ebbelwoi Express for a tour around Frankfurt - a neat little tram that passes the important sights and gives you an idea of the city, while you can enjoy the applewine or juice. (lookie here: http://www.ebbelwei-express.com/ )
