Leaving the Lakes District today and travelling further north to our accommodation at Bishop Auckland (around the Durham area), which we have booked for a week. This will be great as we will get off "the road" for a while and have a base to travel backwards and forwards.
The Hartlepool area is where we shall be meeting John's son and we are hoping to spend a lot of the time in this area catching up with him.
We took some great photos on the way up with some great scenic countryside (although a bit on the chilly side!) and arrived a bit early to book into the accommodation so had a bit of a look around Bishop Auckland and surrounds. We did a tour of Bowes Museum (related to the Queen Mother with the Bowes side, I believe), which was very nice. Were able to have some lunch and tour the gardens as well.
Made our way to our accommodation, which is a two storey semi-detached called Five Gables guest house. We have self-contained accommodation, so are looking forward to cooking some of our own meals for a change (although won't stop us eating out and having the mandatory bottle of wine!!).
