Made it to the American D-Day Cemetery

Took the train to Bayeux yesterday, it is the closest town to the American D-Day Cemetery.  I walked in the pouring rain from the train station to the center of town to try to find a place to stay.  Found a nice looking B&B and the guy showed me a room.  I made the mistake of asking him, "Do you have heat? I was freezing from being in the rain.  He said his place was a 4 star B&B (yea maybe in Cambodia) and that he was insulted by my comment...so I was back in the rain.  I found another place with a real nice lady and stayed there.  They have a D-day museum in Bayeux and I went there.  There were 3 of us in the whole place, a couple from Michigan and me.  The girl working the desk said she would play the english d-day movie just for me.  I was the only one in the theater.  They had some cool stuff there, mostly guns.  Went to a pub and had some beers and a pizza.

WoW, had an interesting day today.  Somehow I managed the buses and got to Omaha Beach and the American D-Day Cemetery which is about 30mins from town.  This whole area is very rural and its not easy to get around.  Could've rented a car but I'm on a budget.  The Cemetery makes you speechless there are about 8,000 crosses lined up in a perfectly maintained area.  I'm pretty sure that the USA actually owns the area of land at the cemetery.  This is the off season and there are only a few people around.  I walked on Omaha beach and was the only one on the beach.

I found out where our uncle Victor Washabaugh is buried but it is over 2 hours away at another American Cemetery.  I had a ticket to Paris for tonight but I changed it and I'm going to go find him.  I told the staff about him and they called to his Cemetery and the people there said that if I came by train that they would send someone to the train station to pick me up.  I have to get the train at 7:45am.

Son,
I hope you can visit Mont St. Michel...a little "touristy," but impressive nonetheless because of its location (and age). Perhaps you have not seen so many abbeys that you start to think "... seen one... seen them all." Might not be so crowded at this time of the year. We were there in July and it was wall-to-wall people. We stayed at a B and B where the abbey was visible. Safe journeying! B & P (The "rents")
