Meeting the tour group and The Pancakes
Well it was my first day with the tour group. They're a varied bunch ranging in ages from 18 to 68 a 50 year difference. The 68 year old, Sai who comes from Canada is a real character. He'll be up every morning at 6 to take photos and will walk further and faster than anybody else.
On friday we left Christchurch to head for Punakaiki on the west coast. On the way we crossed the Southern Alps and stopped at a location where LOTR (Lord of the Rings) was filmed. It wa sthe sword fight scene from the first film. See the photos and see if you recognise it.
Anout 4 in the afternoon we arrived at Punakaiki where the spectacular coastal rock formations The Pancakes are situated. We stopped in the town overnight and after a short 2 hour trek in the morning we head off to Franz Josef to spend two days while we hike the glacier and other activites.
