Firstly the climate due to the altitude is more like Britain would be at this time of the season, cold. During the day it reached 12 degrees but dropped to a chilly 3 at night. However if you have the right clothing this isn't an issue and the town is a outdoor enthusiasts dream. A huge variey of walks are avaible to do, many of them that will see you visiting very remote areas so you need to go prepared with the correct gear.
Today, the second day here for me I hired a mountain bike and took to the trail. It was a challenging trail with many steep gradients. The most annoying part of them was every time you went down one, you were ensured of a steep climb the other side. The views and the sense of being miles from anywhere made it worthwile. Tomorrow its back to Sydney.
The Blue Mountains is a good place, and the YHA here is superb, but what the place lacks is any form of nightlife especially for backpackers. Despite being a large town, there is only one bar, which is right at the opposite end of town to the hostel. Most of the locals seem to frequent Liquorland were every purchase is wrapped in a brown paper bag and gives the impression you've just bought soething illegal or embarrasing that you don't want anybody else to see !
