hey.. there is also a cam in this direction :)
Logging on the travbuddy website has become a regular routine of mine for the past 2 months, and every day and every night I am always looking forward to receiving messages or even just a smile from someone - all across the globe. At the same time, I have been exchanging messages regulaly to Filipino travbuddies and when Josh, a.k.a. the_bloodsucker, suggested a Manila Travbuddy Meetup, I right away confirmed my intention to go. Reading through fellow travbuddies' blogs about meetups made me even more excited than ever. It may not be as fabulous as the New York's and the Chicago meetup, but at the prospect of meeting new friends and judging from the fun we had in exchanging messages, I know that there is a lot to look forward to.
Working like a night owl here in the Philippines is good for someone who has insomnia like me, but when you need to go somewhere in the afternoon and sleep still eluding me at 3pm, I know I am in some kind of trouble (last sleep was 1pm-4pm the previous day). What if I end up being sleepy the entire time I was with them or much worse, falling asleep???!!! Shocks, that would be a shame. I would be known as someone who had fallen asleep during the travbuddy meetup (what a refutation it would be, hahaha!!!). Oh well, this girl wants to go still. Meetup is at 7pm but I am already on my way out of my house before 6pm. Josh has already texted that he is on his way and I have arrived a bit early at the area so I decided to go to Powerbooks to pass time.
After 15 minutes, Josh sent me an SMS that he is already at the Fish and Co. Shall I grab a coffee first??? Nah, walking my way to the place would keep me from being sleepy (I hope).
yummy shrimp fettucini, right Josh?
Josh, the_bloodsucker, was smiling at me on my way to the table. He has an air of friendliness in him that made me feel at ease in an instant. Who would be, we are discussing how hungry we already are and talking about what's good at the menu! That's one topic I love! Yummm... I am not sleepy all of a sudden.. hahaha! We decided to order our drinks and a serving of prawn fritters while waiting for the others. Next came Sarj, a.k.a. kickassstunner, who sat beside me.
We have been talking a lot also through the website and we have been getting along so well because of the common factor, we are self-confessed half woman and half gay :D (ooopppss! that's one secret out). The minute that she has settled herself, the 3 of us started talking as if we have been meeting up in person regularly. A few minutes passed and the travbuddy from Singapore, Apo a.k.a. planisphere, came. Oh boy, I was a bit surprised... he looks a lot cuter than his pictures!!! He has a very charming smile and his voice though emanating a hint of mystery also is full of friendliness. He is a bit shy at first... but just at first! Hahaha! (Peace Apo :)) Then came Elaine, a.k.a. laineeey, a cute girl with a winner smile (the pics would prove that).
She is the youngest among the group that night but certainly not an amateur in travelling. Ted (ted332) and Bryan (ryan_84) came at the same time afterwards. I haven't talked much to the two of these guys but we have exchanged a few messages enough to feel comfortable and there was definitely an air of friendliness in our table (with lots of cameras clicking whenever someone arrived). Ted is also well travelled and he offered a lot of travel tips to most of us that night. Last came Ar a.k.a. 1agrace who most of us had not had the chance to talk to through the website but she was right away welcomed to the group and after telling her our names, the table was already a riot of stories, jokes most of time as evidenced by the laughter from our table.
i like me best in this pic :D
It's really amazing that we were all talking as if this was not the first time we have met. Before we know it, time had passed and the restaurant was almost empty. Ar and Elaine had to go to and catch the last trip with the train, and Apo had to pack his things because he will be leaving for Singapore the next day. Awwww.. :-( but we all promised to keep in touch and to meet up again soon. A few poses, picturetaking here and there, before we left the Shangrila Mall and with just the 5 of us left, we decided to go to Tomas Morato for beers. While at Ted's car, we were all laughing most of the time, talking about fellow travbuddies (sorry Lauro!!!) and some adventures worth sharing *wink wink* (don't ask Lauro about it, please!!!).
Hmmm.. I am not much of a drinker, having just drank 2 bottles of beer in the last 6 months (but this doesn't mean that I am a boring person :P) but with the happy air we were having, it's worth it to lose a few more hours of a chance to sleep. :-)
are the glasses just too near the camera or are the glasses just bigger than their heads??
