Day 8 Negombo
That morning we had an appointment with the Catamaran-Crew. We sailed to a shipwreck that was pretty far from the coast. It was a great trip because there was a lot of wind and the water was not that calm as it had been the first time! It was pretty cool! We sailed away from the coastline and it went so fast! That was just really nice! We saw a lot of fishing boats on the water that morning. Small ones with just one person on it fishing with a net, but also really big ones wich had a lot of birds circling around the boat. That was a funny sight.
After sailing for an hour we went back to the coast near a coral reef. One of the Catamaran-people gave us a little tour. We went into the water and walked over the rocks near the coastline. There were a lot of small fish in the shallow water there and that was really nice to see. The place was also covered in Urchins. They were everywhere. Not like the ones with the really long spikes i saw in Egypt. These were also very big but not the spikes, just the body was very big. The spikes were more short. The guy from the Catamaran just pulled an Urchin from the rocks with his bare hands wich was pretty scary to me. He turned the Urchin around to show us where the mouth was. It was really pretty because that part was purple coloured. Ofcourse he put the Urchin back after we saw it and that was really nice to see. The Urchin attached itself back to the rocks.

There was still time to look around and we went for a swim there. The water was very shallow so we saw a few pretty fish. We went snorkling but the water was not clear at all so we didn’t see that much. Only when the water was not shallow we could see some fish here and there. The sea was just too wild and there was sand everywhere. After swimming for 20 minutes we went back to the Catamaran and sailed around for another hour before heading back to the hotel. I wanted to check at what time we would be leaving that night exactly so I went to check the tickets.
There I discovered we were actually missing part of our e-ticket! Total panic broke out as you can imagine. We called the travelagency and they told us to go to the airport and go to the office of Sri Lanka airlines there to see what we should do about that. By that time we discovered that part of the ticket stayed behind in Kuwait.

We rushed to go to the airport but once we got there everything was arranged for in a minute! The lady behind the desk told us that stuff like that happens all the time with the e-ticket and she just printed a new one right away and we were ready to go.
We went back to the hotel and had lunch.
I had a great pizza!! Not very Sri Lankan but I was just in need for a pizza haha. After lunch we went to a little shop in Negombo close to where Nel lives. Earlier that week I had picked out fabric in the citycentre of Negombo and went to that shop Nel recommended to me. There I had ordered a costum made Sari, made from the fabric I had picked out and it was time to pick the Sari up. This is funny because none of my friend here in Uden know about that. I dont want to tell them yet Im saving the Sari for some special occasion. I already told 2 TravBuddy’s what I wanted it for so as you can my TB friends are really special to me!! :) I tried on the Sari and after changing some stuff here and there it was all done. Then Nel showed up at the shop and she took us to her house to show us where she lives. She lives in the same building as the shop is in, she rents the house from the lady that owns the shop and who also made my Sari.

After the short visit we rushed back to the hotel to pack out luggage because that night we would be leaving.
I took a quick shower and made sure I was ready for dinner. We went over to some place very close to the hotel owned by a Swiss lady. After a short while Andrew and Nel arrived and we exchanged some gifts we had for each other. Then we sat down and ordered our food. The dinner was great. I had some shrimp and salad wich was really good. We all sat together talked about the trip and Andrew explained a lot of things to me about the political situation in Sri Lanka. I felt horrible after hearing everything thats going on there. Unbelievable how some people in the government manipulate everyone and everything to maintain the power. If there would be a president who didnt care about power but cared about the country things would be way better for sure. Also with the conflict with the Tamil people. It is all just so unnecesary really! It was very insightfull for me to have this conversation. After dinner we met another Dutch couple that are friends of Andrew.
On the Catamaran
They just walked in the restaurant to say hi and they told us about the project they are working on. They are building a school with living-facilities around that for orphans. We talked about the project for some time and how they had set it all up. Great people really! After saying goodbye to them we had dessert. I had some very nice Vanilla icecream! We sat there for another half hour to just talk and then it was time to say goodbye. We hugged each other and ofcourse promised each other to keep in touch. We had all talked about how we wanted my family there to have their own land and their own house so they would be out of trouble with the family. So we made some arrangements already and talked about how we would take care of that. Andrew and Nel told us they would pass on all the information and would make sure we would know everything about what was going on with that. After that Andrew dropped us of at the hotel and I went up to my room to wait untill it was time to go. I couldnt wait to go home but ofcourse we still had such a long trip ahead of us..
