Southwestern South Dakota, known as the Black Hills, is full of parks and monuments. Using Rapid City as our base of operations, a friend and I hit all of them in a four day weekend.

Mount Rushmore National Monument

No trip to South Dakota is complete without an obligatory visit to Mount Rushmore.  While these types of tourist locations are not as much my cup of tea as a national park, you can't help but be impressed by the massive carvings, especially when you consider the technology available at the time.  There isn't much else to say that the pictures can't say themselves.  It was interesting however that you could hear mountain goats everywhere and even see them up close.
