Doing the old hippie trail in reverse, traversing from Nepal to see more of the roof of the world, visit exotic places as Bhutan, dwell in the lowlands of Bangladesh, seek the origin of Budhism in India and finally make my way out of the continent via Pakistan.

108 towers monestary in the mist

Back in the old days when traveling to exotic places was more like exploring and one needed a true expedition party consisting of many porters, cooks, servants etc. Today that may seem a bit extravagant, even decadent, and yet here I was standing with my guide, assistant guide, cook, assistant cook (mind you!) and two horse men needed to guide the six horses that would carry much if not all our gear and luggage.

The terrain of the baby or mini trek did not take us to the snow mountains but was more like a trek around the lush green valleys of Bhutan. With all the "servants" doing the hard work and the terrain not really hard it had all the making of a leisurely stroll through the mountains. The only thing that worried me was that the government had asked all the monks in the country to pray for rain as Bhutan was hit by a bit of a drought. So I ended up praying that the weather gods were still deaf to the continuous praying and chanting of all the monks for rain; 100.000 monks blessed by the Dalai Lama vs. me. Guess who won.
