Doing the old hippie trail in reverse, traversing from Nepal to see more of the roof of the world, visit exotic places as Bhutan, dwell in the lowlands of Bangladesh, seek the origin of Budhism in India and finally make my way out of the continent via Pakistan.

Symbols of Bhutan

Much of the Bhutanese culture is inspired by Tibetan culture as in the previous centuries Tibet had it's greedy eyes on Bhutan. The two kingdoms fought many battles and every time the Bhutanese were victorious. It's actually the first time I had seen Tibet and the Tibetans being portrayed as the bad boys and I must say it's refreshing break from the "Free Tibet" debate.

Not only did the Tibetan armies invade Bhutan but many of the important holy men came from the kingdom sitting on the Great Himalayas. Each of the holy men did bring his own teachings to Bhutan and even one brought some symbols to Bhutan never to bee seen in the rest of the world. The symbols are painted on the houses to protect the families from evil spirits but with some symbols I have trouble which evil spirit they want to repel.
