I love this picture! The sun on the lamp. Yes!
At this point in time I must thank Travbuddy. For on travbuddy we found a walking tour guide through Paris from a local. We printed it out (thanks Su) and brought it along and seen things a local way. (well of course we kind of screwed up the directions and all and made it out own tour) This tour not only told us where to go but gave a history and a point of view. We loved this day in Paris and the guide form travbuddy made it possible!!

The morning started off with free breakfast at our hotel. Cold cuts and cheese. Toast and cereals. It was free. I drank a dozen glasses of orange juice (the glasses are so small) and then we were off. We hop on the Metro and go to Hotel de Ville.
Its a beautiful building. In front of it is a big plaza where they've made an ice skating rink and a sledding area. Watching the little kids learn to ice skate with these walkers they give them is so cute. We cross the bridge, ignoring our walking guide for the moment and follow our noses. We find a sign that says Notre dame and we are on the attack. We walk right up to it. The sight is pretty amazing. Its a big big church. The front that is so very familiar is very tall. Everyone is in the plaza in front taking pictures and theres this huge tree that they decorated. It feels like christmas.

We enter (free, I love attractions that are free, yay) and walk through the church. There are all these amazing little spaces around the sides, statues and paintings and just this atmosphere.
Hotel de Ville
We walk all the way through taking pictures and starring. The ceiling was beautiful and so far up. I managed to get lost and lose my friend Su inside. She actually went outside while I stayed in the same place waiting for her to find me.  She did and we were on our way again. We consulted the heavenly walking tour and found that we butchered it. We crossed the bridge again trying to get back on track.

We head over walking through the streets. We find this building whose name escapes me at the moment. It has all the pipes on the outside and the pipes are color coded as to which they are. Pretty nifty if you ask me. We walk on by and seeing the moving fountain. Su's camera decides at this point it is no longer charged and all pictures this point on come from my camera.
Hotel De Ville (in the center of this square was a ice skating rink)
We walk through the streets just enjoying the sights and sounds when we find a big beautiful building. We learn later it is St. Eustache. We walk towards it with no other thought in mind. We are walking over Les Halles which is an underground mall with a park on top. we eventually turn around and head to Nicholas Flammells house. We take pictures and then walk on. We find a cafe and stop for some Coffee Viennese. And crepes. Yummy crepes. And then we are off to finish our walk again.

Walk over the second bridge to St. Chappelle. You mustgo through security to get in. I made the metal detector beep. I always do even when I empty my pockets. We get in and pay and you enter the bottom part. Its roomy and open. You find stairs at the back. They wind and twist up to a second floor.
These stairs are best taken fast because the steps are tiny and you are likely to trip over them. So you speed up them to make it in one piece.  You pop out into this light room. The walls are covered in stain glass. Each one shows a different design.  The floor have designes in them and you can tell that they are wearing down. Everything is so awe amazing. You can just walk around and take in the beauty and wonder at how it would look with the full sun pouring in those windows. Then down another set of windind stairs to the main entrance again.  You pop out and if you are Su and Lisa you take pictures at the gate in your travbuddy sweatshirt.  Then you walk on.

We walk along the river and take more pics as we go. We head tot he end of the island and see a statue of.
... Henri Matisse?? umm.. I really have already forgotten. I need to look over the pictures to see the real name. We continue walking and head back over to the other side and the with utter excitement at least in my heart we walk into the Lourve. Well at least into the square there. A picture frenzy starts and we take pictures of everything.  We will be going inside the Lourve tomorrow so we just take in the sights outside of it. We walk down to see the Arc right outside the Lourve and then we head to the Jarden de Tulliares. I imagine this would be great during summer as it is so big and filled with grassy areas to lie down and chill at. But its winter and its cold so we admire the brave people around us who has come out as well and walk toward the Obelisk.
The Department Store. 7 Stories of Christmas shopping madness
We've seen the Obelisk in Central Park in New York and are thrilled to find another one.

Suddenly something catches out eye. We turn and way way way down the lane is Arc de Triumph. I can tell looking at it that it is far away but we are determined. We start walking and once more start taking pictures.  We stop only once for a refuel. A Coke for me with a chocolate tart (my first real conversation in French with the lady helping us. Althought I did answer 'yes' in three different languages).

We finally arrive and take the stairs down and over to get to it. It is huge. Really big. Its a trip to stand inside of it. You can look up and its so tall. Each wall has a different scene and then in the middle is the memorial to the unknown soldier (at least thats what i heard.
Where do we go?
I really knew nothing about it except that it is a big arch). We declined to walk up the couple hundred stairs to go to the top. At this point I was turning into the gimp. I would wake up and for no reason my left knee started hurting. I've never previously injured it. I didn't hurt it on this trip either. Just one morning I woke up and it hurt me. So stairs were not thrilling me. I walked pretty normally but stairs made me hurt. Maybe next trip.

It was nearing late afternoon and we had to hurry. I made an executive decision. I made Su get a a taxi. We had walked so far that day already and I would poop out if I had to walk more. We were glad we did though. We went to Las Invalidades. It was far from where we were. We got there with only 15 minutes to spare so we could not go inside anything and we could not go see Napolean's Tomb.
We instead take pictures and pretend we went inside.

Now Lisa is really starting to get grouchy and poopy. We can't find the metro. I'm tired and really just cranky. I don't remember why. I just gve up and let Su lead. Now I'm a natural with directions. I can usually always find where I want to go. On vacations I get turned around and sometimes lose my way. This was one of those lost moments. Yet Su took the reins and walked us around until we could find the metro. Tada we found it. I gimped my way down stairs and onto the metro. Onto Montremart.

As all good girls will do. We popped off the Metro right into the red light district. Sex sells baby. We walked up the lane just laughing and pointing and taking pictures until we found the Moulan Rouge.
The Notre Dame
Which is what Su wanted. I personally stopped the movie after about 15 minutes and really didn't mind if we seen it or not. But it was cool all in all.

Our next stop was the Sacre Coeur.  I put the foot down again about climbing all those stairs so Su instead took us to the tram whcich for 1 euro 50 would take us to the top. Yay. We didn't have to wait that long before we were in and up. At the top our rather the middlem there was still stairs up to the Sacre Coeur, we stopped and admired the view. It was nighttime and dark out. The city was bathed in lights. Off to our right was the Efiel Tower and and it was doing up its little light show. Behind us was the Sacre Coeur highlighting the hill. The pictures do no justice at all to that site. It was gorgeous.
The Notre Dame

We walked towards the left and found stairs heading down. We took them even though I was reminded of the exorcist the whole time. We wandered around some more then finally found a place to eat. La Panaroma. We sit down and order drinks. Some Irish Coffee so me and some beer for Su. Su had her first meal of snails here and I just watched. We ate and laughed and had a good dinner. Threw a few smokes in there and happy.

We grab the metro, now having a better command of it, and head back to the hotel. It was such a long day and we were tired. Plus we knew there would be a long day the next day.
