We ditched the Christmas Market and walked on over to the Pergamon Museum. This is one of those contriveral museums. Back in the day they went all over and did all kinds of excavations. They found all kind of artifacts and then just took them home. Now the controversy is from the original countries feeling they should get what they consider to be theres back.
I'm not one to let a little controversy stop me. We headed in and dropped all our stuff off in a locker and then walked around. The first room is pretty incredible. It is from the city of Pergamon. Its walls are covered in ancient coverings and these a grand staircase. You can go right or left to check out more things.
The special exhibit while we were there was these painting. Grr. I cannot remember the name of the Exhibit but the paintings were very vivid.
There was also this Arab exhibit. It had tapestries and old glassware and anceint Korans. Still not a fan of that. We left that area peretty soon and then over to the other side. We seen the Ishtar Gate and many other cool things.
I found it to be a weird museum. Its not filled with just paintings. Its filled with statues and pottery and actual structures from old times. It was interesting but it just didn't seem like that greatest thing to me.
We left the museum and headed on our way. It was still pretty early and we were just walking when we went past the Berliner Dom. Just for the heck of it we got tickets and went inside.
We followed the way around and popped out upstairs in a little alcove. Su adn I tried to take a picture. Instead of using a timer I used the 3 timer So it took a picture (I look crabby in it) then a picture of su as I am walking over to get the camera and then one more of Su with her arms up trying to make it stop. We were in a religious place afterall.
We skedattle and head up further.
Now you head back down all the stairs going even further down to the crypt. Now Su got a little freaked out and hurried on through. I stayed and looked through it and then was lost in a crypt. There were so many burials there. The coffins sit on top of the ground and there are baby ones for children who lived days or even just a few short years.
I jammed on out and finally found Su. I was glad not to have ben too lost. I pounded a couple juices and then we headed off. Su had found a place she wanted to go for dinner so it was back to the metro to go one stop over. (which I then looked out and could see the Dom and we could have walked from there, who knew) We found the square we wanted and then we found the statue of St. George.
Now thoroughly hungry we look for a place to eat. We walk in and stand looking like idiots. The guy at the bar tells us theres no tble. They are booked. I thought he was being an ass but then he tells us we can eat at the bar and so we sit down and smoke and just talk about the day. We order our food and some drinks and relax. Finally at the end of the night Su pays and she overtips like mad. She did some figureing in her head and thought about tipping like how we would back home. The meal was about 55 Euros and she gave him a 15 Euro tip. (something like that) He tried to give us change but Su figured we were straight. So then the guy comes over to us. Hands us both books of matches, postcards and chocolates. He really liked us then. The food was good and we were happy.
We headed back to the Metro and caught our last ride back out in the middle of nowhere to our hotel and backed up all our stuff. We had to be up and out early.
