I got to hang with a life-size Kiwi bird in Christchurch!

After driving through the night we finally arrived in Christchurch. I had been to Christchurch on my last trip to New Zealand but I was not sure I remembered too much about it. Chris had driven us down that night because Adam planned to buy a car for our road trip that morning in Christchurch (talk about relaxed last minute planning!) In the morning, I woke up real early so I decided to go for a run. It was a bit of a grey morning and I was starting to get a little apprehensive about how this road trip was really going to work out. That morning Adam went over to check out a car, we ended up with a blue mazda for $1,500 (which Adam will soon fix up and sell). That whole afternoon Adam worked on the car so Dave, Sarah and I decided to go into town. I had forgotten how much I liked Christchurch. The whole town is situated on either side of this really beautiful river which has park benches and spots for picnics all around. In the town, there are tons of street performers. We came across a wizard who was standing on a ladder doing a political satire and tons of people singing and playing instruments. The town square is situated on a beautiful church. When I went there with the Bennett’s the time before they had a really great open air market. That night the house, we were at had a bit of a party but I was so tired that I put in my ear plugs around 11 and crashed. All this backpacking is sure taking a toll on my ability to stay awake!
