We love Santiago - why are people so down on it?

After the longest travelling day and lots of waiting around in airports we made it to our final stop in South America, Santiago de Chile. We arrived around 9.30pm and went straight to our hotel in the heart of Bellavista, the city's bohemian barrio with the best nightlife in the city, the streets were full of people sitting outside on patios eating and drinking. We went straight out to join them and had good food and a great night. Totally in contrast to what some people we have met and guidebooks have said ..... 'the people aren't very friendly and the city is boring, it's just a stopover place that you have to come into'.... we have found just the opposite so far. Well, we are of to check out the rest of the city today so here's hoping to another fun packed day!!
