This trip comes at a break point in life: - My business is 10 years old & moving into a new season - My debut album is finished & getting stocked in shops during jan08 - My wife & I are looking to set up a new biz within activity-based travel - We're both looking to get more stuck into church projects We have an opportunity to take a break and get a refresh before it all kicks off again so we're visiting Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Fiji, and Japan - this is the blog!

where we stayed in Piha - Piha Beachstay - an awesome place just 10 mins walk from the beach but set in a valley
..the title of this blog is what our fellow backpacker friend said as we looked out onto the sunset at Piha last night. It was a pretty extraordinary sight but I had to laugh at my slightly overly-stoked buddy. That said we'd been talking about how amazing it was here for at least the hour before we went down to the beach as it was. I can't believe this place is only 45 mins from Auckland - a city of 1.4m people and yet it's so serene, clean and beautiful.

The surf's been pretty good too. Had a 3 hour session first night and a few sessions yesterday. Today might involve a bit more chilling at our amazing accommodation - Piha Beachstay - as my body aches all over after the last 2 days in the water :-)

We'll probably head over to Karekare later - the beach where 'the piano' was filmed - will upload some more pics to this blog if we do

The web site for the Piha Beach stay is called 'pihabackpackers.co.nz' before calling it a backpackers is woefully underselling it.

With it's own beautiful gardens, proximity to the beach, awesome open-plan communal areas, relaxed vibe and helpful owner it's the most relaxing, well kept 'hostel' I've ever been to. We've been here 4 days and could happily stay another 4. A lot of the other guests are either repeat visitors or people who are thinking about changing plans to stay - it's that good!

Add in wifi, surf rental, cheap laundry service and well equipped kitchen and you've pretty much got your own home from home

outstanding, get there now before it goes in the lonely planet and becomes a frenzy
