First experience of a 'sound'

Had a great day today at our place in the Sound. Waking up late after the long drive the day before we had a lovely walk along the lakeside to the nearby farm and then up the hill for some better views .

After lunch we just relaxed by the lake side, I found a guitar and played it in the sunshine before our hosts put on a ‘mussel night’ after going out and catching 20KG of mussells just an hour earlier. All the guests got round a big table and worked our way through the mussels - it was a great way to get to know people and a tasty treat too!

Love this place 'Hopewell' - so peaceful and beautiful - will add a review to this blog at some point.

Hopewell is a guesthouse in Kenepuru Sounds, a part of the Marlborough Sounds, there is no lake in that area, it would of been the sea shore you walked along, and you don't actually catch mussels, they grow on a long line attached to a mussel bouy floating on the surface, to harvest the mussels you simply pull up the line and strip off the mussels, easy but the line is extremely heavy, loaded as it is with millions of mussels. But, they do taste delicous.
