The Roman Fortress Saalburg, with Bath Houses

Saalburg Travel Blog › entry 4 of 10 › view all entries

From my hometown in Woelfersheim, Germany, where I delight in my grandmother's roses, to the 13th century castle Ronneburg, to the medieval university city of Marburg, there is no city too large, no hamlet too small to capture my love.

The Roman Fortress Saalburg, with Bath Houses

though this is a reconstruction from the 19th century, the origins of the fortress date back to AD 83. it was abandoned in AD 260. what is left behind are nearly a thousand years of history, and an incredible proof of the might and vast empire of the Roman world.  there is a museum located within the property, housing a number of objects that werediscovered from the ancient romans, including pottery, coins, weapons, and shoes - most of them found deep inside the fortresses wells.

I too appreciated the achitecture in Germany and many other parts of Europe. You have taken many good pictures and shared some great information. Thanks.
