Lindsay and I had to wake up super early(6:45am) to get ready and have breakfast and such. The breakfast was actually really good, I had pancakes and they were awesome. We had to be at the meeting place at 8:20, near the disco. There were a ton of people there and we were a bit confused about where to go. Everyone kept getting on different buses and ours eventually came and there was just Lindsay and me and another couple and our guide Eddy. The road was really bumpy but it was really fun. We went to 3 other resorts to pick up other tourists. By the end the bus was full.
As we were driving Eddy would tell us facts and info about the country, he was really funny. He told us that the average Dominican person that doesn't live in a big city makes 450 US dollars a month which isn't enough to live.
We headed towards the mountains and up some side roads and through some small towns. I felt like such a tourist though, we were taking picture of people just living their daily lives. Then we went down some roads and ended up at a small school. It was on a Friday and the kids were on their last day of school so they were all celebrating. Some of the people on our bus brought school supplies and toys for the kids. They all seemed so happy, it was cool seeing that. There were also a lot of wasps there, which was pretty uncool. Before getting back on the bus we got some more drinks. Eddy would always be like 'It's Happy Hour!!' and give everyone booze.
Next we went to a sort of animal sanctuary/coffee making place..I'm not too sure what it was but there were small crocodiles and crabs and turtles there. There was also a bunch of food that the tour guides told us about and then we tried some. They told us how to make this alcohol called mamajuana...i don't know how to spell it but it looks a lot like marijuana when I spell it like that...Anywho, Linds and I didn't try it after seeing a bee fly into some other guys. The guy also said it was known as Dominican Viagra because it's a natural aphrodesiac(again with the spelling, sorry!). But we did try some hot chocolate and also bought some coffee beans and cinnamon sticks that smelt so good.
Then we had some more drinks and went for lunch at 2ish.
We went to Playa del Macau beach or something like that, but it was so much fun. There were pretty big waves, I'd never been boogy boarding before so I was so excited. It was one of the funnest things I've ever done. After we looked at some jewelery and played with some stray dogs before getting back on the bus.
We met my dad and brother at the bar area and then went back to our room to change for dinner. We went to the Italian restaurant at the Caribe part of the resort and it was soo good. Our waitress was hilarious too, she thought we were funny because we ate a lot of the bread sticks that most people don't eat. Near the end of our meal she brought 4 shots of this red stuff and said 'Mamajuana!!'...Linds and I knew exactly what it was because we learnt earlier but they had no idea and we were all laughing so hard it was great, we also got a picture with her she was so awesome.
After that Linds and I sat at the pool bar area and hung out with our new friend Greg from Ontario.
