Goodbye, Chiang Mai

Travelling solo in Thailand and Cambodia for Christmas and New Years 2007/2008. Crocs, bat caves, waterfalls, kayaks, helmetless moto riding, and some of the prettiest sunsets and sunrises ever.

Goodbye, Chiang Mai

After a long and nauseous drive down the mountain, we arrived in Chiang Mai, the busy little hub of Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai is an appealing city, with unique temples and a sunny climate that's cooler and nicer than Central or Souther Thailand. Once a medieval stronghold, Chiang Mai is still surrounded by a moat-like canal and crumbling wall topped with flags.

I spent the day visiting temples and trotting about town before going back to my hostel and watching Bhuto assassination coverage on loop. Later in the day, I met Lawrence and Mike for dinner and shopping at the market. All in all, it was a pretty relaxing last day in Thailand. The guys were heading home the next day, too, so it was goodbye ad-hoc travel buddies. Goodbye, chilly watermelon shakes garnished with orchids. Goodbye, whizzing motos and teetering tuk-tuks.

Next stop, Kuala Lumpur.
