Chicago Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Hi-dee-hey! Me, Jake and Elwood (the Blues Brothers) broke out of the slammer and went back to that same old place, Sweet Home Chicago! 15 TravBuddies and friends plus 2 new recruits gathered on Saturday, December 22 at People Lounge in Wicker Park for the first Chicago TravBuddy Meetup.

Tim digs into tasty tapas

People Lounge in Wicker Park was a fabulous place to host the TravBuddy Meetup!

Tim and his girlfriend, Melissa, were the first to arrive. They reserved the lounge’s primo location - two large wooden tables close to the door. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more efficient. We even recruited two waitresses to join TravBuddy. The world music soundtrack was at just the right volume: loud enough to provide a festive atmosphere, yet soft enough to comfortably chat.

The rest of us started arriving about 6:40 p.m. and jumped into the communal spirit of Travbuddy and People Lounge. Most folks shared food and drinks with scrumptious tapas and numerous pitchers of Sangria being the popular choices. We were fortunate to have a diverse group. Five states were represented: California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Wisconsin. Juan, who flew in from Guatemala City, picked up the trophy for coming the farthest distance.

More than any TravBuddy meeting so far, many people contributed to its success. Raul, Carolyn, Luke, Sybil and Juan each played an important part in the events's planning and promotion.

The photos, captions and comments tell the story - a great time was had by all!

I want to encourage fellow TravBuddies to attend one of the many Meetups springing up everywhere! It's wonderful to experience the moments that create lasting memories and to see the friendships that are forged from these get-togethers. Chat with ANYONE who has attended a TravBuddy party. Don't be one of the folks that see the myriad of photos and crazy comments describing these events and say, "Why didn't I go to the TravBuddy shindig?"

Afterwards, a few adventurous souls walked over to Plan B for rounds of vodka shots, Jaggermeister (Luke) and dancing:

Apache_Rose_Peacock, Carolyn, Chicago, Illinois.

Alicia TOWERS over short Raul :-D

iheart2travel, Sybil, Los Angeles, California.

John1112, Juanca (Juan Carlos), Guatemala City, Guatemala.

juniorcbr, Luke, Chicago, Illinois.

raularanda2001, Raul, Chicago, Illinois.

No one has yet mentioned if anyone was able to walk back :-D

Yay another great travbuddy meetup. You could be the official travbuddy mascot and attend each one. That would give you even more reasons to travel!
