I have a lot of home towns, and several towns I would love to adopt. I also don't have a great attention span for just sitting indoors on the weekends. This Blog is about all the places I've been to since I got back from the Netherlands, the weekends with friends, and the nights out along the way.

Home again

Just a quick update - I am back in Swindon, work is going well, and an insane drunk lurched right in front of my car today, so I had to do an emergency stop, and then thumped my car and tryed to shout at me.  Er... it's good to be back!

I don't know about good- but it's certainly not forgettable!

When I moved to Swindon, the only thing that anyone knew about the town was the Magic Roundabout. Everyone said, "Swindon - that's got that roundabout, hasn't it?" So this review is actually of a roundabout. Sad, huh? I live in a town where the main tourist thing that everyone knows is that the traffic system sucks.

Ahah! But not just any roundabout! The magic roundabout is notable for being five mini roundabouts glued together into the sort of massive flower a child might draw if they had access to road drawing software. You navigate it by pointing yourself at a likely looking exit and counting the exit numbers to get there, then hoping. They actually used to sell t-shirts for survivers, at the tourist information office. It has it's own Wikipedia entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Roundabout_(Swindon) And was apparently top ten scariest junctions in the UK. There is a pop song about it. Interestingly, the council originally called it County Islands or something after the football pitch, but had to change the name because the entire town refused to call it anything other than the Magic.

So if you ever come to visit me, then I will show you the roundabout, on our way to Bristol.

Ahh, the memories of driving across it/round it/through it just after passing my driving test ... eyes shut & go! What's more scary is trying to cross it on foot after watching yet another crap game at the county ground! Happy days :)
