Isla Naburot
October 20, 2005
Isla Naburot sits south of Iloilo City and is near the Guimaras Island (famous for its World-Class Sweet Mangoes). It is an island owned by the Tiongsons of Iloilo. My friend Gabby is the grandson of the original owner, he says it is a family vacation island as well as a very unique getaway for foreigners. Usual visitors are Europeans as well as Japanese. He says they love the serenity and that one time, some Japanese guests even requested (made sure) that the geckoes were there to make those natural foresty sounds at night. But they didn't. At that time they didn't know it was supposed to be a mating call and that putting one gecko on a branch wouldn't work. I just suggested that they put hidden surround sound in the trees surrounding the nipa huts/houses... but that would ruin the whole escape to paradise thing wouldn't it?
besides, there's NO ELECTRICITY in the island! there's barely a cellphone signal and of course, no wireless internet. Well, in a paradise island such as this, GETTING OFF THE GRID is a must!
On our first day we went around the island and saw all six resthouses, one jump-off (high rock + deep water), three beach spots, and a very high sea-view spot (sits on the highest spot in the island, which you can reach after 15 minutes of walking up) where you can watch the beautiful sunset...
