A few words on the capital

I´ve decided I like this place.  Yes, it is really security conscious.  People who have ever lived in Liverpool will recognise the anti-theft measures of copious metal bars, razorwire and broken glass cemented along the tops of walls. Yes, one can feel a bit like a target walking around with a backpack, but then that is the same in any capital city. But it has an ambience.  Most Costarricenes don´t like the place - it´s nickname is Chépe, which is what people called José are called.  I like the fact the nickname is longer than the actual name.

But the city´s situation is fabulous.  I´m surrounded by mountains and volcanos, the weather ranges from hot to spectacular and the people are genuinely friendly.   I´ve got the beginnings of a song about it, meaning I have a few ideas for lines:

"Chépe sits in his Mesoamerican bowl
Edges jagged and sharp
And crowned in coriander and coffee
Swamped by the Pacific."

Something like that anyway.  It needs some work.   Anyhoo, despite it´s looks, it is a fun place.  Perhaps the city version of Marty Feldman.
