So, I'm holed up in the Hostel Oasis with me old mucker Rob.  The hostel is a sprawling Colonial buiding with really high ceilings, a small pool (three strokes and you've done a length) and hammocks galore.  At $6 per night, it is a bloody bargain.  There are some nice people knocking about too.

Granada is a bit mad. In fact, Nicaragua seems to be distinctly 'foreign' to a Western bod like me.  Horse-drawn carts rumble along the streets and boulevards, vying for space with the diesels and bicilists.  We saw a bloke selling mattresses earlier - he was somehow managing to carry five.  I guess I should have took a photo.

Rob and I were discussing how annoying it is when travel writers talk about places 'you'll fall in love one and not want to leave.
The horses do have heads
' Immediate impressions of this place lend some truth to that ideal. It's sleepy yet bustling, different, interesting, and bloody hot.  Lake Nicargua is impressive from the shore, although the detergent heavy runoff from town dissuaded me from entering the water. Unlike Costa Rica, there are still old buildings here and whilst plain and colourful on the outside, some of the interiors are beautiful. I am particularly liking the lack of razorwire.

Them fancy volcanoes rise about all over the place, creating clouds and looming in a relatively threatening way.  We met some bloke from Goole call Dave who climbed up on the other day.  He was bricking it because it erupts every three years like clockwork.  Given the last one was in 1999, there isn't very long left...

Mmm, more as I find out...
