I love Memphis! I lived here for three years while attending Memphis College of Art. It was in this gritty Southern city that I caught my first glimpse of the person I wanted to be. I try to come back as often as I can and always look forward to visiting various Art spots.
Dixon Gallery and Gardens is a quiet and peaceful space to view both Art and some lovely botanicals. I have been here often over the years to see exhibits such as the 'Art of Dr Seuss' and exhibits from their permanent collection and always enjoy the beautiful gardens outside.
One this particular day I took my former Boyfriend to visit one of my favorite Memphis galleries. It was a gorgeous day and the sunny outdoors made it difficult to stay inside looking at art. Outside we found these really cool figure sculptures. created by Steinunn Thorarinsdottir - Try saying that three times in a row without stuttering... I was drawn to the vagueness of the features and the placement of the figures through out the park. The figures ignored you, they made you feel like you did not exist in their world. It made me want to break the veil between myself and the sculpture and demand that they acknowledge my existence! haha I won't be ignored by art! :P
In the gardens you will find flora and trees from all over the world, a lovely traditional water fountain and greenhouse. can't wait to come back!
