Walcott Castle

I am fortunate that my job allows me the opportunity to travel and explore my own country through its winding back roads. I never grow tired of the landscape, friendly faces and cows! :P quite often I am seeing my homeland from my car, but there are several days when I am able to explore on foot a park, river, city, small town or a dirt road leading to some natural treasure! :P Enjoy!

Walcott Castle

I only happened across this random little castle while searching for a Post Office.

The town of Walcott is located about 5 miles or so from the Iowa 80 Truckstop aka "The Worlds Largest Truck Stop!". The castle is down the street from the post office and is noticeable from Main Street..

I asked the woman working at the post office if there was a history behind the castle. She said that someone years ago had the building transported from some unknown place in europe piece by piece and reconstructed in small town Iowa.. There use to be a bar but now the lower part is a residence... other than that she didn't know much more...

This is what I love about small town America, you never know what treasure you will come across!!

Days Inn
The Days Inn at Walcott is located about 10 miles outside the city of Davenport, IA right at the Iowa 80 super truckstop.

Its a nice pet friendly hotel with clean rooms, pool and highway accessibility.

One main complaint was the poor internet access. Sometimes it worked other times it did not. I was told by the people at the front desk to call the internet support people and that just wasted an hour of my time.

Thanks so much for sharing your problems with internet access. That's probably the thing number one that I have about any hotel. I always want my wireless to be ready and fast hehe, specially if I want to post picts of my trips on Travbuddy hehe ;)
