I am fortunate that my job allows me the opportunity to travel and explore my own country through its winding back roads. I never grow tired of the landscape, friendly faces and cows! :P quite often I am seeing my homeland from my car, but there are several days when I am able to explore on foot a park, river, city, small town or a dirt road leading to some natural treasure! :P Enjoy!

Maquoketa Caves State Park: Mud, spring and old school houses

Natural Bridge
About 40 miles north of Davenport, Iowa exists the beautiful landscape of Maquoketa State Park.

I spent about two hours walking along the hiking trails and exploring a few of the caves all the while enjoying the wonderful weather and budding signs of spring.. Many times I had to stop and just take in the peaceful vibe of the park!

The walking path through the main cave (dance Hall Cave) was filled with at least 8 inches of mud!! according to the park ranger we met cleaning the mud out of that cave is a yearly project!! Obviously they were finished clearing out the mud and we had a fun time sloshing through it! HA!

after the invigorating hike I stopped at this old school house located a few miles from the Park Entrance! It was the first old school house that I had the pleasure of exploring and photographing!
