the trip to Mainz!

I had to get up at my 4am, agh i hate early flights doh! my stepdad dropped me off at the airport, i was excited to see my family in Germany. I hadnt seen them since the previous summer when they came to England for my parents wedding and my uncle hadnt been able to come as he was recovering from chemotherapy. My flight to Cologne from London Gatwick with EasyJet left on time and i arrived at Cologne Bonn Airport, I love flying Easyjet, I had booked my return flight about 2 months earlier and it cost me 33pounds return!

The flight was only half full and i got 3 seats to myself at the back :) . the flight took about 45 - 50 minutes and I was in another country woo! , my luggage came off the plane within 5 minutes! by the time i got to the baggage claim it was already there! how rare for that to happen!

I grabbed my bag and struggled to find the train station, finally found it but couldnt get the ticket machine into english, finally managed to do it and there was also a British couple on a day trip to Cologne who were struggling to get their tickets and the man had a huge tantrum it was really kind of funny, i tried helping them but they still couldnt do it and i had to get my train and i didnt want to miss it so i left Koln/Bonn Flughafen to Koln HBF (main station in Cologne) where i stupidly bought a one way ticket to Mainz on the ICE train,

I was pretty confused at this point and had a huge migraine so i went to sit down and i started talking to a lady who coincidentally had also just arrived from the UK on her way to Frankfurt. Now as i was pretty confused about the trains and there being no platform number on my ticket I asked her if it was ok to train with her and she didnt mind at all except it was on the Die Bahn train which was really uncomfortable and i then had to pay 8euros to upgrade my ticket which i didnt mind as i was with someone else who could speak German and help me out on the trip, i fell asleep on the train and she woke me up when we arrived in Mainz a few hours later, i'll be forever grateful for her friendliness, i should have learnt some German before i left and it was also my first trip on my own so i was a little nervous! My aunt met me at Mainz Hauptbahnhoff and i was so happy to see her. My migraine was still hurting so my aunt gave me some tablets and i went with her to the school where she teaches English and i sat in on a class with her and her students which was good fun as they asked me lots of questions about England. The students told me they'd never met an English person! It was the beginning of a great week!
