The road winds through beautiful moutainsides, old sugar cane fields, past taro fields, all the way to a tiny town named Hana. The road passes breathtaking overlooks, plunging waterfalls, small botanicals gardens, and lots and lots of turns. Total, there are 56 one-lane bridges and 617 curves to combat. We did the drive on a Tuesday and there was little traffic making the drive easy and carefree. On occasion a local would zoom up behind and we would pull off letting them by.
Unfortunately, my camera's memory card decided to die so I missed out on about 25 really good pics of the best falls on the road.
A few things to remember: fill up in Kahalui because the further you venture, the more expensive the gas becomes and the less likely you will find it. Start early to avoid the traffic. Hope for a little bit of rain so all the waterfalls will be fully flowing. :)
