It took us over an hour to find parking...it must be Christmas time

00 - Saks Fifth Avenue tree
Along with paid time off from work, decorations are some of my favorite things about Christmas time. Expect to see lots of trees, big or small, adorned with balls and tinsel. San Francisco's skyline is even brighter at night with holiday lights wrapped around the buildings and people are out and about having fun. I love it.

We drove in Saturday afternoon to see the holiday decorations and do some shopping. The drive in on the freeways weren't too bad, but once we got to Union Square, it was hell to find parking. It took me 30 minutes to drive down one block and turn right toward the garage. I saw the entrance into the parking a few yards ahead. The BMW 750 I let cut me just drove in, and right when I thought it was my turn, the garage employee stops me and tells me it's full, move on.

WHAT?!?

I was pissed. Talk about bad timing. 30 minutes later, I finally find a garage that wasn't full and reasonably priced... reasonably being $25. Happy to be walking around, we wandered all over Union Square and eventually made our way down to the Westfield Shopping Mall. Saks Fifth Avenue has a huge Christmas tree near the main entrance, behind the Trish McEvoy counter. I didn't notice anything special inside Neiman Marcus, just the usual snobbery. Macy's has wreath's with huge red bows in every window and every single store we went into was packed.

After 3 hours of walking/shopping, we were huuunggrry! John made reservations for us at Ana Mandara for 9pm, http://www.anamandara.com/, but we couldn't wait that long. It was almost 6 o'clock and we were about to pass out.

We drove down to Ghiradelli square and fortunately found free parking! woohoo, made up for earlier...ha! Luckily, the restaurant was able to seat us immediately. Unfortunately, it took a while for a waiter to notice us.

We ate our food (meals OK, wouldn't go back) and then walked around Ghiradelli square. Since the sun was gone, I was freezing my *** off! What was funny was that no matter how cold it was, the Ghiradelli ice cream shop was packed and even had a line outside the store. Crazy people :)

We called it a night at 7pm and bummed the rest of the evening. I'm hoping to go back into SF again before Christmas to get a shot of the skyline. It has been clear skies lately and the view of SF from the 280 freeway is so pretty.

I wish there were half stars on this ;) My opinion on Ana Mandara is between average and good. It's not a bad place to eat. The taste of the food … read entire review
