Extreme Real Estate in Nicaragua
The breakfast was good. Just toast, bananas and some weird white fruit…it tasted like pineapple. Today is a holiday called the “celebtacion De la Purisima.” Everyone in town sets up a shrine to the Virgin Mary, which are very beautiful and elaborate. Then people go around and say “who’s the one that makes us happy?” and collect candy. It’s like Halloween in the states. There are so many people out, fireworks & music. Oh about fireworks…it’s not only because it’s a celebration but there are fireworks every day all day. They apparently love big booming fireworks, like bottle rockets. Strange.
Today Jordan came and picked us up at 8:30 for a day of looking at properties. It was so long and exhausting, we are so beat after the all day of "extreme real estate." We drove hours on long bumpy off road type roads. Getting thrashed around looking at different properties for sale. We did go and look at the big development Monte Cristo, it was the big highlight of the day. They bought this huge piece of land on the pacific coast and have cut the roads for some of the communities but they’re only roughly cut. It was great to see the views of the volcanos in the distance. And the beach was black sand….very hot.
We drove through many beach towns, like El Transito, Salinas Grande & Poneloya. We also went to another community development called Santa Rosa. They were all pretty run down and poverty stricken but great to see. Beautifully painted buildings and large pretty palm trees.
While driving on these horrible roads today we came across many kids and old people who were filling the huge pot holes in the road for money. It was very interesting. Another strange thing is we came across a guy with a baby raccoon as a pet. Apparently he’d domesticated him….but I think otherwise once he grows up.
I’m very sick today, I have a nasty cold….of course! And after a day of ‘extreme real estate’ my body aches!
