Bunratty Castle
So day 4 and we cracked and went on a day tour. We all wanted to see the Cliffs of Moher, but couldn't figure out a good way to do it in one day from Dublin with no car. We woke up before the crack of dawn and made it to Heuston Station to meet up with the rest of the group. It was a pretty good mix of people, young old, a few Australians... our tour guides were these two older Irish gents. We took the train to Limerick, where we drove through the city towards Bunratty Castle. Limerick city seemed a bit sad, which is a shame since we didn't really get to explore it much. The drive from Limerick was quiet scenic, but it made me queesy.

Bunratty Castle is best described as a "manly" castle.
My new best friend! What a sweet donkey!
While Kilkenny Castle was the medieval dream castle, Bunratty was a "let's-roast-the-pig-in-the-fire-and-eat-with-our-hands" kind of place. We climbed up the towers and got some awesome views of North Munster. The Bunratty River curved around, and a few little boats lay stranded in the sand from the low tide. (Bunratty River is a tidal river, it goes in and out with the tide.)

We wandered around Bunratty Folk Park for a bit. With the little traditional cottages, and people dressed up and making pie, it reminded us of historic Williamsburg in Virginia... except with thatched roofs and more farm animals... FAT farm animals. The fattest cow and the fattest chicken I have ever seen are roaming around Bunratty Folk Park. My favorite was the Donkey though. It must have been used to people, because it just leaned right in when I started stroking it's mane. It was interesting, but we didn't really have a lot of time to enjoy it, for we had to get back on the tour bus. (I'm not a fan of organized tours... )
