Me and my friend made this trip through Europe in summer 2006.

Barcelona

La Sagrada Familia
11.6.

After a horrible overnight train we arrived in Port-Bou, and immediately we went to ask when the next train to Barcelona leaves. It leaves 10.20 so went to eat breakfast in a stations cafe. After a cup pf really good coffee and croissant we entered to the train and was on the move again! It was just amazing how much the landscape had changed, there where cactuc´s and we did see a glimpse of Mediterranian! When we were arriving in Barcelona we had no idea wich station was the mainstation. So we asked from one guy and without a common language he somehow explained that after two stations we should get off. And when was our time to get off he told us again that now we should get off, nice guy!!

Now we were in Barcelona, and no idea where we would sleep this next few nights.

So we went to information point and get a list where was hostel´s addresses and phonenumbers. So we start calling in some of them. First one was full, and second one has beds for us only the next night. But we still decided to go there and then find other hostel while walking throuh the city tonight.  So off we go.

And it was HOT!!! Well, not that hot but we are from Finland, and were used to some +20C in Paris and now it was way over +30C!!!! But it was only a half kilometrer or so to our hostel so we walked there. One nice old man showed where we should go and we find our hostel without any problems! After a while we gathered our day stuff and walked through city without any plans. We went to eat paella and it was so good! After that we went to the beach and just hangout.
SHARK!!
In evening we did see a breakdance perfomance in a street so we watched that a while. And then just went to the hostel and get some sleep!!

12.6.

I didn´t wake until 10am and then we went to get some breakfast. And asking if there would be rooms for us in this hostel after all. And there was!!  Someone had cancelled and we could stay there, then we just packed our stuff and changed the room. After that we left to visit l`Áquarium and see some sharks! It was nice and big, and there was A/C! :D There were lots to see, and sharks were big ones.

After that we went to nearby mall just hang out for couple of hours and I bought shorts. Then we headed to the beach and just hang there rest of the day. Just relaxing!!

Today was the day we were supposed to leave Barcelona and go back to France and Marseil.
Views from the Mountjuc.
But faith has decided otherwise. We were on our way to the trainstation and were just sitting in a park bench when my friend noticed that her bag was missing! What the hell.. She started to look at it around and I was just there sitting because I could leave our bags there. After a while she came back without the back. There was of corse her passport and money. So I did take the lead because she was in shock. We went to the trainstation and find out that there was a police"station" or something. So we went there and I waited outside and the police asked me few things because she didn´t really couldn´t keep up what was happening. And they did make the report of thievery or something. And then they give us infromation about Finland embassy in Barcelona.

AK called there and it was just about to close it doors so we should get there first thing in next morning.

So we were sitting in trainstation and we were get ready for spenginf night in a trainstation. But then faith decided to interrupt the game again, and some guy came and asked us if we needed a place to stay. Then he gave us his business card and told us how we will get to the hostel. After that we went to the metro station and some guy asked us if we needed tickets, he had two day tickets and he was just about to leave Valencia and didn´t need those. So I paid him 1€/ticket and then we went to the hostel. Hostel was an appartment were where couple rooms. There was this nice old lady who didn´t speake any english but somehow we did understand each other and I paid her the price of two beds for one night.

Then we settled down and because we had those metro tickets so we just travelled with metro around the city.
Little town Cerbere.
We did see old bullfight arena, La Sagrada Famila, Barri Gothica and then to the Mountjuic Mountain. It was so beautiful!! We went up with taxi because it was so hot again, but we walked down to metrostation. And when we were in Barri Gothica we did saw a protest, but no idea what they were protesting. But a lot of noise they did made. After that we went back to hostel get some sleep.

14.6.

We did get up around 8am and 8.30am we were on the move to visit Finlands embassy to get new passport to AK. I just sitted there on a sofa and I was about to die in boredom. But luckily it only take three hours and then she had temporary passport, it would have take less time but they had to fax some papers to Madrid and there was some problems in connection. But then we were good to go and went to trainstation and we were on the move again! We went to Cerbere, little town near the border. We just walked around couple hours and then we were on our way to the Marseil.

Near Las Ramblas
This hostel is right in the city central. It´s like 3min walking distance away from the Las Ramblas. Breakfast is included in the price and staff speaks perfect english and are really easy-going. They give you this pass that you are supposed to show when you enter in the hostel but nobody asked that from me, not even once. So I don´t know it the security that good after all. But there is a security locker next to every bed, so you can put your valuables there. There are any sized dorm rooms from 25€/night. I slept in a dorm where were like 15 beds in two storeys. It was little noisy byt not too much. It´s tidy, showers are good. Free internet.
